So, I finished all of my work graduated and moved out of Savannah last month. I wasn't pleased with my final project, but I have plenty of time to do other things now while I wait for my diploma to arrive in the mail. I had a crazy dream that my cat picked it up and brought it too me, does that mean something? Anyways here are a few selected pieces from the watercolor pages of the book I did for my project. Later I'll put up some photos of graduation and Greece, oh yeah, I was out of the country for 2 weeks.

Senior Project
So for senior project I've decided to do another, of the many already out there, version of Beauty and the Beast. Here are some sketches, more items and details later.

Covers
Just some covers I'm working on for Vis 2. The elf one is going to end up as a poster for my mini comics class I think.

More mini comics...
The next few posts are going to be mainly mini comic posts, since two of my projects, well three, if I have time for it, are all minis. Guess who's excited?! Haha, anyhow, the top on is a mock up of a silkscreen cover I'm going to do for my Alt/Exp class, and the bottom is the fold out poster that will be safely tucked away inside of it. So exciting, I know.

Pie Vikings
I finished all my little pie vikings, they all are 4x6 in the end, and I have to say, I'm pretty sad to let them go, but then if I get money for them, I won't be so sad anymore. I know, I know, selling out, whatever, I have a digital copy of them, and who knows, I probably will get them all back anyhow, but at least I'll have this pie show under my belt and plastered onto my resume.

Ghetto Scan
So these are the inks for the Attack of the Pie show my friend, Meg, is curating/organizing from over at the Damn Hipsters link on the side of the page. Obviously it is about pie, and what goes better with pie, than Vikings? Originally I was going in more of a gnome direction, but ended up changing my mind the other day with the help of my dear friend Jason to vikings. I think it will work out okay, now I just have to watercolor them.

poo poo
Our first assignment for Alternative/Experimental comics was to make a self portrait comic making ourselves bigger and break out of the panel borders. Or something like that. I can't really remember the details of the assignment anymore and am too lazy to pull the rubric out. Anyhow, I didn't really enjoy my first piece, and no one else did either, it was just lazy I guess. So I re-worked it a few weeks back and then forgot about it until recently, now I'm just tired of it, so I'm done.

New Mini Comics & Superhero Comics Can Suck It
We handed out our third mini comics today in class, and they were all pretty funny not to mention just plain weird. But, that is what you have to love about independent comics, they are going to be some of the weirdest things you'll ever lay your hands on.
Okay, so superhero comics. I don't mind them, but honestly I could care less about them, unlike most of my fellow nerds. Don't get me wrong they are beautiful, but a lot of the times I find that the stories are a bit week and strung out. So, yesterday I rediscovered the Graphic Novel section at the school library and decided to read as many of them as I can. Graphic novels and alternative comics seem to go almost totally unnoticed that any outsider who hears you draw comics will automatically think of Batman, and I'm sick tired of it. I guess with all these Alternative style classes I've been taking I've taken on a great appreciation of these kinds of comics and want to get my hands on as many as I can. Also, to try and help out in giving these hidden gems more of a voice I am going to write up a little bit about each of the artists or comics that I've read over on my Tumblr. Hopefully my small little voice will help add to the small din of noise.

Carpal Tunnel and Mountains of Terror
So, this image may look quite miniscule, but, I've been working on this 8.5 by 42 inch piece for a while now. It took me a while to try and figure out what I wanted to put in/on the mountain so I got off to a slow start. Then we had our deadline bumped up, so I have been cramming to finish as much of it as I can. I am pretty sure I won't be able to finish it by the new deadline, so I'm going to plan, or keep to my original schedule, to finish it by Tuesday, and hopefully in color. Then, I was thinking, if I feel inclined to the idea, I'm going to attempt to make it into a mini comic or poster, which will take a lot more planning than it's probably worth. Another option is to attempt to silkscreen this sucker. I am getting ahead of myself, I still have to finish the damn thing, without my hand falling off, or me hacking it off with a dull xacto blade.
Update, no one really enjoyed this piece, except for my roommate. I still want to finish it, maybe people will enjoy it more when they actually see the entire work in all it's shining glory. I just don't have the drive much anymore because of that disappointing moment in class when I realized everyone was felt "eh" about it. But, then again, I guess I will have to find something I do enjoy about it and focus on that, it seems that usually people tend to enjoy your work when you've found something about it that you love.
Super egos, selective hearing & death.
So, in my last post I put up an image of Sopapilla, my crazy alter ego. Now here is plane jane old me, in all my frumpy glory. I've been playing around with how I use color, not much has changed, but I've been trying to make things look much softer while still keeping it simple as well as using my fair share of pastels (honestly, in my opinion, you can never use too many pastels) I tried to use the same color palette I used for Sopapilla, just making it more realistic, and after completing it I want to go in and change the color of my id's hair, not to mention that weird fox flying off into some weird direction. Now I can only hope that my daily journal will be interesting enough to contain such characters.
Also, it seems that I have acquired the most peculiar selective hearing. Now, normally selective hearing usually means you hear what you want to hear or you just pick up on the most absurd part of a conversation (well, at least that is what I have come to define it as), but I, somehow, have been hearing the craziest deadlines. Perhaps it is because I am not used to be fully functioning by 11 o'clock, but every time I have been given a deadline for a project in my Visual Storytelling 2 class I have heard it was due a class before it should be, now I even tried writing it down in my journal/planner/idea book, and even there it is written wrong. What is wrong with me? Who knows, I mean it isn't an entirely negative kind of problem, but it can start to get troublesome, especially when you have two other studio classes with projects all due around the same time. I'm almost positive that the amount of stress I have dealt with attending this school will shave at least 20 years off my life, at least it's worth it.

A lot of work in the....works.
| Sopapilla, Warrior Princess |
So I have a ton of work and haven't spent the time to scan or download the image files to my computer so this will be a relatively short post. About this crazy thing you see above the text is my interpretation of my alter ego. If you talk with me you've probably heard me tell some crazy story, then recant that I never actually did what I'd said previously, but wish I had. So, for our mini comics class we are going to be do a daily journal comic for two weeks and I couldn't think of a way to represent myself in that in a way that I'd enjoy drawing or wasn't too mundane. This is what I came up with, Sopapilla Warrior Princess. She basically can and does everything that my id usually tells me to do, but my 'super ego' ( can't seem to find if that is the right term for that or not ) stops me from doing. Hopefully this will turn out alright, also, hopefully it doesn't make me look like a complete jerk. ha ha.......ha
Now, this, was an in class assignment that we took home and colored. Being that, as I am told, I am a crazy person, I redrew the entire assignment into this masterpiece, haha. It's going to be a 1/8th page comic that takes a little bit of folding to turn into a mini comic. Hopefully my classmates will enjoy this silly little comic, plus I've got it done early so I can mess up the printing process and still have it ready for the due date! I've just become so efficient with the passing of years, of course I'm saying this while procrastinating on one of my numerous projects.
Here is a tutorial on how to put this damn thing together, and how to make one if you are daring enough to try on your own.

Week 2, Done.
So, now that I spent the entire weekend destroying my hands with multiple hours of paper cutting, I have finished two assignments, neither of which I'm entirely proud of, but can live with. I wish I could get a better photo of my Arachne piece, but I have never been very good with cameras, hopefully I can get my piece to school tomorrow so someone can photograph it, I might have a better image to put up.

Some finished work.
Just some stuff that is done, it really isn't much or very impressive but I thought it was fun at least. Zeus, Ladies Man, was an in class assignment for making a circular comic that can be read from any point and the story should be understandable, I don't really think I achieved that, but I liked the subject so I don't really care, plus it was just an exercise. The two images at the bottom are of my classes first mini comic for mini comics class as well as mine. It wasn't very impressive, but then it was just a bunch of collected works with a nice paper cover, but I am a little too excited about being in the mini comics class so I thought I'd share. Below is a plot layout and character design for my next assignment in Alternative/Experimental comics, it's in cut paper and is already killing my hand, but, it is totally worth all the pain.

New Quarter
New Quarter, new projects, new psychosis, and a new meatless school diet, oh so fun. Let's see if I can survive through this quarter before even thinking about how I'm supposed to graduate at the end of Spring quarter [which is only a few months away].
Oh, yeah, these drawings are for Mini comics, the first is my "Publishing" logo, and the bottom two are my quarter manifestos. I really didn't know what to make of those so I just put some random rambles and doodles all over it. Jesus, I need to improve like crazy and fast too.

Medusa
The time has come again for me to lose my mind, and it isn't helping that I've been releasing almost every fluid in my body out of my nose due to this damn cold I seem to have picked up somewhere. Damn school. Anyway, the midterms for digital coloring are coming up again, so you know more crazy stupid ideas of starting things from scratch and redoing them a million times is in order.
This time I felt especially stupid, and wanted to do a scene of Medusa, I just threw Perseus in there for some dynamics. Though, I didn't really want to play Medusa off as so much a monster than just as a bad ass who just stands around her home in dramatic poses, even though the only people looking at her are her assortment of crazy screaming stone men.

DAVEY JONES and trannies
So, I finished, sort of, my next two pages. There are still some things with that I need to rework, mainly the text and text bubbles etc. All that is just a simple fix in the good ol' photoshop. Seriously, I don't know what I'd do without photoshop it could cure ills if it were a real being. It is the Florence Nightingale of computer programs....anyhow hopefully I can make enough of these to put into a decently sized mini comic to pawn off on people eventually.

Starfish comic updatesssssssss........I've officially lost my mind!
Okay, so I was only supposed to do one comic for Monday's class, but since I'm a bit insane I did two, and started on the third last night at 6AM. Yes, I was awake at the ungodly hour, well I hadn't gone to sleep and came up with some really silly stupid ideas for this comic, which I plan to do all of them within the next few weeks. Everyone is complaining that there isn't enough time to do all of them, but I guess my style for the comic is simple enough that I can whip this stuff out in an hour or two, or as a result of some horrible abomination, I am a working MACHINE. Anyhow, I am enjoying myself a bit too much with this assignment, so hopefully others will as well.
Oh, and I'm going to be redoing the text/speech bubbles on the first one, since they are pretty much ILLEGIBLE !
MORE SEA MONSTERS TO COME!

Comic strips or whatever......starfish
The story keeps changing so if I've told you what is going on in the story, it's not the same. I don't even really know what is going to happen at this point, probably should write it down somewhere. I am pretty worn out from midterms so I am not really aware of what is going on anyhow. Anyways, here are the character designs.
Oh, and to make matters even more fun, I'm going to be doing all of these in color, traditional watercolor style. Okay, so it isn't that much work, but I'm getting to be super lazy the closer to the end of the quarter I get. It really doesn't take me that much longer to color, but I thought I'd be able to skate by with just some simple inking, oh no, it's gots to be in color don't 'cha know. Alright, I am pretty psyched about this project, just putting up a whiney fuss to be contrary, not sure why, but I hope this turns out half way decent, and I can get across some slightly humorous gags for each strip. I'm not so good at the whole, write something up that is not only appealing to everyone but has good comedic timing as well as being funny.
